Eight wands cross a clear sky on a diagonal, green shoots on each and no one holding them; below, a calm river and a house on a hill. It is the only card in the suit with no human figure: the action has already been launched and now flies on its own. The Eight of Wands is Fire in motion, fast and unobstructed.
Symbolism
- The wands in flight: news, messages and processes moving at great speed.
- The absence of figures: it no longer depends on you; what you set in motion runs its course.
- The clear sky: no blockage in sight; the path is open.
- The river and the house: the everyday life those news land in; the arrival.
- Correspondences: the element of Fire; the decan of Mercury in Sagittarius.
Upright meaning
Upright, the Eight of Wands announces speed: answers, messages, proposals and journeys arrive; what was stuck suddenly comes loose. It is a card of active communication, quick decisions and advances that follow one another in a chain. It asks you to be available and alert, because things are about to happen faster than you expected.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, the wands lose their course or stall mid-flight. It can point to delays, misunderstandings, messages that never arrive or get misread, and flights or trips that run into trouble. It also warns of needless haste: acting on impulse, answering without thinking, running without knowing where. Slow down and sort your priorities before launching again.
In love
Upright, everything speeds up: declarations, constant messages, an unexpected reunion, a relationship that evolves in weeks what others take months to reach. There is passion and enthusiasm. If you are single, someone may appear out of nowhere, perhaps connected to a trip. Reversed, communication gets tangled, replies take too long, or the initial intensity fades as fast as it came.
In work and money
It announces accelerated progress: replies to applications, quick negotiations, business travel, projects gaining momentum. It is a good time to send proposals and close deals. With money, payments or financial news may arrive soon. Reversed, it signals delayed transfers, unanswered emails, or rushed decisions that later need correcting.
The card’s advice
When the current runs your way, move with it. Reply, communicate, decide; the window is open, but it will not stay open forever.
If you feel something approaching fast and want to know what it carries, draw your cards with Goetia.
